The TrackABus service uses Global Positioning System (GPS) hardware and wireless communications technology to track the real-time location of buses. This lets you use your computer, cell phone, smartphone or other tech device to get information about when the next bus will arrive at your stop, even if you are still at home, the office, shopping, or dining.

TrackABus is available using a desktop website, a mobile website (which can also be used as an accessibility-friendly text-only desktop website) on iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, or other smartphones. Dedicated iPhone and Android apps are under development.  For instructions on how to use each version of TrackABus visit the Help Pages.

Please note that the TrackABus NZ service for Whangarei is simulated tracking data based on publicly available timetable information.

The TrackABus NZ service is based on the great work of the OneBusAway New York and OneBusAway teams. We would like to thank all the hard work of the people who have worked on the various OneBusAway projects, without which our real time information service would not be possible.

Special thanks are needed for the OneBusAway New York City team at MTA BusTime. The BusTime team developed the particular real time solution that is the bedrock of the TrackABus service. We would also like to thank the developers at the MTA, Cambridge Systematics, Open Plans Transportation and the wider OneBusAway community who have helped us launch this service with their time and knowledge - we hope they will be pleased to see their work helping get real time information to towns and cities across New Zealand.
